  • Airbus Spain and CIAC (Corporación de la Industria Aeronáutica Colombiana) of Colombia are cooperating in developing a new MALE UAV under the project name SiRTAP (Sistema RPAS Táctico de Altas Prestaciones)
  • The goal of SIRTAP program is to have a new drone system that can enter in service with the Armed Forces of Colombia and Spain in 2023, taking into account that the new development is based on the ATLANTE UAV
  • According to the first technical information released by CIAC, the drone should have a 750 kg MTOW and a payload of 120 kg. It has a length of 5.47 m and can fly at a maximum speed of 200 km/h

  • As written in the article itself the efforts are aimed at servicing the Armed Forces of Spain & Colombia however on the export side their intentions are not clear
  • The tactical / MALE market is a very aggressive one as additional new manufacturers enter while there are less opportunities to mass export these systems
  • Possibly, one of their export options are aiming for service / leasing contracts especially within Europe with local agencies such as Frontex & EMSA
